Highlighting Housing Support in the 2022 Budget
April 8, 2022
We have lots of important news to share on housing in #Budget2022 🏠
  • Home buyers will have the ability to save up to $40,000 – tax-free – through the First Home Savings Account.
  • We’re putting a ban on foreign investments in Canadian homes for the next two years, because these homes are meant to be lived in.
  • We’ll help create 100,000 homes by helping municipalities through the new Housing Accelerator Fund.
  • We’re ensuring our most vulnerable won’t be left behind thanks to 6,000 more homes under the expanded Rapid Housing Initiative.
  • We’re tackling unfair practices on the housing market by introducing an anti-flipping tax on any person who sells a property held for less than 12 months.
  • We’re leading the charge on the Home Buyers’ Bill of Rights and bringing forward a national plan to end blind bidding.
  • We’re putting money directly in vulnerable Canadians’ pockets through a one-time $500 Canada Housing Benefit payment.
  • And we’re topping up our Reaching Home funding, bringing us one step closer to ending chronic homelessness in Canada once and for all.
