Marine Atlantic Visit with Minister of Transportation
March 9, 2022
Given that it’s Come Home Year this year and family and friends are making plans to come home, I felt that it was especially important today to deliver and accompany the Minister of Transportation, the Honourable Omar Alghabra for a tour of the Argentia Marine Atlantic Ferry terminal this afternoon to show him first hand what a fantastic facility we have right here in Avalon.
While we were there it was clear even the rain and the fog couldn’t dampen the spirts and pride shown by the fine folks at the Argentia Terminal as they showed the Minister and I around the facility which which operates June-Sept each year.
After our tour, the Minister and I had the opportunity to met one-on-one with CEO Murray Hupman and Board Chair Gary O’Brien to discuss various issues crucially important to the operation and services offered at Marine Atlantic Inc including, Marine Atlantic’s plans to introduce a new, yet to be named, vessel to the fleet in 2024.
Special thanks to Marine Atlantic CEO Murray Hupman, Board Chair Gary O’Brien, Marine Atlantic Terminal Manager, Tara Pittman, Placentia Mayor Keith Pearson and other invited officials for making today’s visit such a productive and positive experience.
I have no doubt Minister Alghabra understands just how important this service is to the Avalon riding, and indeed all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians at home, and those who want to come home.
