Our Commitment to Fight Climate Change
June 7, 2021
With World Environment Day just a few days ago, I’m proud to reflect on the action our government has taken to protect our nation’s natural beauty for generations to come.
Our government has committed to fighting climate change, creating jobs, growing the middle class, protecting our environment, and building a cleaner future.
With hard work and a solid plan, we delivered on our commitment to meet and exceed our old 2030 target – making us the first federal government in Canadian history to set a climate goal and have a plan to get there.
We’re taking action to get to net-zero emissions by 2050 – including by delivering on our commitment to introduce a Bill that enshrines Canada’s net-zero goal into law.
Today, Minister Seamus O'Regan and Minister Jonathan Wilkinson announced that tree planting is underway and we will be planting 30 million trees across the country this season. Trees help clean our air, fight climate change and make our communities more resilient, which is why we’re planting 2 billion trees by 2030!
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg!
