Funding Transit Initiatives in Rural Canada
March 29, 2021
This morning the Honourable Catherine McKenna, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities; the Honourable Maryam Monsef, Minister for Rural Economic Development; and Gudie Hutchings, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Rural Economic Development, announced $250 million over five years to help address the transit needs of Rural Canadians.
The new $250 million fund, part of the nearly $15 billion public transit investment announced last February by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, will help to support rural, remote and small town communities to address their unique transit challenges!
Communities across Avalon will experience the impact of this funding. This fund, which would be the first federal fund targeted to rural transit, will support the development of solutions in communities without existing transit options.
